University of Denver Career Achievement Center

Designed to facilitate connections within the DU community, the focus of the new 23,000 square foot Pioneer Career Achievement Center will be on student career development, employer engagement, and alumni activities. The building will be situated at a key nexus on the campus, between the traditional core and the growing urban edge, helping draw people in to learn how to best engage with the DU community and beyond.

The building will host classroom space, including lecture halls and smaller, more intimate classrooms, as well as faculty and administrative offices. It’s most dominant features, though, will be main level indoor-outdoor Forum, as well as a upper level suite for visiting executives, lecturers, and donors. The Center will be clad in a combination of brick, limestone, slate, and copper, reflecting the campus’ longstanding vernacular while also adding a modern touch. Thanks to the progressive DU approach to design and construction it will be constructed with mass timber construction, an important new construction approach for minimizing the project’s impact on the environment.

Planned for a Fall 2020 opening, the project has been led by the design team at Lake Flato, with SA+R providing local architectural support, regulatory insight, and Construction Administration facilitation. PCL has provided pre-construction services and will break ground on the project in Summer 2019. A great example of successful team collaboration all around, the DU Campus Planning & Architecture staff has also been significantly engaged in the project’s design and coordination, resulting in masterful insight into how this building will serve the campus community for generations to come.
