Third Place – Beyond the Invisible By Uladzislau Chabai
Congratulations to Uladzislau Chabai from the Netherlands, winner of the Sustainability Award for Beyond the Invisible!
This striking infill project redefines sustainable urban living with its mass-timber structure and seamless integration of greenery—from sidewalk gardens to rooftop plantings and a shared greenhouse.
Jury member Darrell Watson shared his thoughts: “Beyond the Invisible almost made you forget it was a single stair project. The intentional inclusion of sustainable energy sources—from powering residences to EV charging, bike parking, and a greenhouse—presents an exciting vision for what’s possible.”
“I graduated from architecture college in Minsk in 2017 and immediately began working in an architecture office. Initially, I worked as a visualizer, but over time, I became more involved in architecture. After moving to the Netherlands, I started collaborating remotely with various firms while running my own practice.” – Uladzislau Chabai
“I enjoy having diversity in my projects, it’s useful to switch from interior design to, for example, parks planning. But the most enjoyable field is residential, commercial, and large-scale architecture. In my projects, I always tend to work with the sculptural aspect of architecture.” – Uladzislau Chabai
“For me, architecture means addressing people’s needs and values. The role of an architect in today’s world often involves collaborating closely with other professionals to create sustainable solutions.” – Uladzislau Chabai“In a way, it is part of the educational process. Participation in competitions gives an opportunity to learn something new in the process. It also gives freedom in decision making. Regardless of the outcome, participating in competitions adds significant value to your portfolio. It showcases your approach and reflects your personality.” – Uladzislau Chabai
