Sustainability Specialist
Preferred qualifications:
- 4-8 years as a Sustainability Director in AEC profession
- Higher education degree in Building Science or adjacent field
- Sustainability certification(s) such as: LEED, Passive House, WELL Building, Living Building Challenge, Green Globes, etc.
- Experience leading sustainability efforts in an office environment
- Proficiency in energy modeling software(s) and basic knowledge of Revit and Sketchup
- Working knowledge of construction methods & design principles
- Team oriented and a willingness to be engaged in design process and practice
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities (organized by categories in SAR+ Sustainability Action Plan):
DESIGN + APPROACH
- Manage creation of internal resources for office related to sustainable design practices
- Coordinate sustainability goals and implementation with project managers/teams
- Introduce team to sustainability resources and energy modeling setup at project startup
- Lead sustainability charettes at concept and schematic design (more as needed)
- Be a resource for teams throughout project progress to ensure sustainability goals are being met
EVALUATION + REPORTING
- Work with cove.tool/energy modeling team to implement standardized energy modeling practices throughout the office and report annually to AIA 2030 Commitment
- Aid in scheduling project meetings to touch base on energy modeling through project phases
- Track internal benchmarking data points on existing projects and chart progress over time
OUTREACH + ADVOCACY
- Connect and network with other sustainability professionals
- Facilitate and manage research efforts outlined in Sustainability Action Plan
TRAINING + EDUCATION
- Attend learning sessions about sustainability certifications and practices
- Stay up to date on code changes and local initiatives (such as Energize Denver)
- Coordinate internal office education sessions throughout the year on sustainability and best practices
OPERATIONS + OUTLOOK
- Manage sustainability group and ongoing tasks
- Continue development of SAR+’s Sustainability Action Plan and lead efforts to meet goals listed within document
- Work with office manager to ensure sustainable office practices are used
