Kansas State University, BArch 2007 and MBA 2024

What’s your favorite building in the world and why?
Lots of pressure on this question. This changes often for me, but right now, I love the Lantern House by Heatherwick Studio in New York. One design move executed really well in a project type that is applicable to our work.
What brought you to architecture?
My dad would say Lincoln Logs and graph paper, but I have loved floor plans and residential design as long as I can remember and still love the programming aspect of all projects.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
You will always have multiple balls up in the air, but at any given time, you must figure out which ones are glass and will break if you drop them, and which ones are rubber and will bounce if you drop them (as it relates to balancing family and work life).
If I were a superhero, my superpower would be…
Flying. I loathe traffic and have had flying dreams since I was a kid.
Go-to vacation spot?
Anywhere that forces me to relax and do nothing. Typically, a beach resort where I can read books and be served endless cocktails and chips and queso😊.
Choose a movie title for the story of your life:
“She did not, in fact, have it all together”
What was your first job?
I packaged hospital pharmaceuticals in high school (legally).
If you weren’t an architect, what would you be?
Realistically, in finance. Unrealistically, Adele.
When I’m not working, I’m…
With my family, running one of my three daughters to their activities or headed to my parents’ place in Steamboat.
Hidden talent?
So many to choose from…jk…I was a professional calligrapher for about 10 years.
What are three things on your bucket list?
Learn to play the piano, become fluent in Spanish, and retire at 55 (or 45).
If you could only eat one genre of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I take this question very seriously and have probably thought about this more than I should have. If it was one food for the rest of my life, for sure it would be cheese. But if I must pick a genre, I have to go with Italian, but not in the traditional sense of pizza and pasta, more the caprese and Mediterranean diet of cured meats, cheese, veggies, nuts, wine, coffe, etc.
If you could interview one person, dead or alive, who would it be? I know this is two people, but I never got to meet either of my biological grandfathers, I would love to get to know them.
