SAR+
Maria Simon joined SAR+ in 2021 bringing with her diverse experience working on a variety of building typologies in domestic and international locales. She developed an interest in mission driven work based on her experience working on the site and architectural bids for the Obama Presidential Center in Honolulu and Chicago, respectively. Her experience managing and advising this work helped craft her passion for designing projects that serve the community through civic, education, housing, and health-based projects. Maria also maintains an active research track studying how the physical and cognitive body experiences space. Her interest in this has most recently been explored through the lens of cognitive psychology and neuroscience via a bootcamp hosted by the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture which she is a member of. At SAR+ Maria holds a design and management role on a variety of projects from affordable housing to school master planning.
Outside of practice, Maria actively participates in academics. She previously taught at Lawrence Tech University, the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Portland State University. Most recently Maria taught a studio at the University of Colorado Denver.
